A window inside life at Augustana College

The Softball Team Went Where??

Palm Trees, open waters, soft sand beaches, coconuts and merengue music is what people think of when they hear the name Dominican Republic. However, a lot of people know The Dominican for something more; Baseball. 33% of baseball players are exported from there. Some names that may sound familiar are, David Ortiz from the Red Sox, or Albert Pujols from the St. Louis Cardinals. Yet, the most stunning fact about the Dominican Republic is how long softball has been around. It has only been around for fourteen years. It started due to the Panam games which the Dominican Republic was hosting in 2000 and they decided they wanted to participate.
Softball has become a huge sport for girls in the Dominican. Playing down there was something I will never forget. The people I met and the sights I saw were life changing!
