A window inside life at Augustana College

WAUG: Past, Present, Future

Konbanwa,

So where to begin. The first big piece of news is that my showtime has changed. My previous showtime was on Thursday and it was far later into the evening than I was prepared for. Having a show from 10-11 and still having to write papers and still be able to get up at 7:30 the next morning is too much. So, I decided to move my show to the less stressful Tuesdays from 8 p.m.-9 p.m. For the most part everything is going pretty well, and with our new studio set up in Old Main, I can feel like a real DJ and not some guy in cramped room in Swanson.

But there is a slight problem which deserves it’s own paragraph: my voice can’t be heard very well during the show. Luckily for me that my show isn’t a talk show but it is still a thorn in my side nonetheless. I’ve gone into the studio and have even tested out the mics 30 minutes before the show and they seem to work. Interestingly enough, there is a 6 second gap between what I say on air and it being hear on my phone. But that’s besides the point, what I think I really have to do is to speak louder and just in case, turn the mic up. Simple solutions for simple problems.

In spectacular news, If It Ain’t Got That Swing has an official logo.  Originally, I wanted there to be a contest on which logo I should use but with all the time I spend on this one, I had to use it. I like how it came out, maybe lighten up the text a bit, but I’d give it an A-. This is actually the first time I have ever used a gradient in any of my pieces. To be quick a gradient is a type of coloring when the color transitions smoothly from one color to another. If you at the image you’ll see the gold going from darker to lighter, than a white line, than from lighter to darker. I was trying to go for an old microphone and for an added bonus, I added musical symbols in it as well. There are three different symbols total, try to find them. Note when I say three symbols, I mean there are three types of symbols, not the actual quantity used.

For my next show, I’ve got something really cool planned out. During the Augustana bookstore’s 12 Days of Savings, there was a sale for anything in the clearance sections, essentially a discount for things that were already on discount. I already knew that the bookstore had some jazz CD’s on clearance, so I ran down and bought 6 different CD’s for only $12. Now my theme for the next show is “Discount DJ”. Funny thing though, one of the CD’s I bought was actually classical music, so now I’m down to 5 usable options, which is fantastic because now I own a classical music CD that I did not have before. There’s a silver lining to everything, you just have to look for it.
