First off, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!* I hope you got everything you wanted and spent some quality time with your family.
So one of my favorite Christmas movies–right after Charlie Brown, the Grinch, and those Rankin/Bass specials (you know, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer?)–is The Santa Clause. Do I like it because I care about the relationship between Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) and his son Charlie? It’s good, but that’s not it. Is it because Tim Allen is funny? Not really. Then why do I like it? It’s because of this guy:
Yes, I watch The Santa Clause simply because I love Bernard the Head Elf. How can you not? He is not the typical, happy-go-lucky elf. He’s sarcastic and grumpy, but caring and hardworking. He’s also one of the (if not the) tallest elves there. Plus, he’s adorable.
I realize you are all going to IMDB to see how old David Krumholtz was in the film and to see how much of a creep I am. Yes, he was 16 in The Santa Clause, but he was 24 in The Santa Clause 2. I know it’s a stupid and unrealistic crush. He was born in 1978, making him 14 years older than me. Also, he’s married. Still, I regret nothing; just let me be. After the Christmas season I’ll go right back to obsessing over Orlando Bloom and Tom Hiddleston, like a normal person. I promise.
Well, I should go. The Santa Clause will be on for the 100th time in ten minutes.
*Or whatever you celebrate.
