WAUG: If It Ain’t Got That Swing

Konbanwa,

I realize that I just posted a huge entry on Model UN and I felt that it was necessary to separate that and this post.  Skipping all the pleasantries, Thanksgiving was enjoyable. Saw family, ate food, football, all that jazz. Speaking of jazz, this week I’m back on the air! I haven’t been able to do my Swing/Jazz radio show, If It Ain’t Got That Swing, for two weeks due to the break and the renovations that were going on. But now that they’re over, I can enjoy the new setup at Old Main, rather than our previous Swanson location. From what I hear, everything has been upgraded in the new station. I’ve haven’t had the time to check it out, but I report the details later.

For those of who don’t know, I am a DJ for Augustana’s student run radio broadcast: WAUG. This has been the most fun I’ve had all term, it has really made me into a better speaker, made me more confidant, and a better showman. As I previously mentioned my show showcases swing and jazz music, with a greater focus on swing. I find swing music to very fun, uplifting to listen to, and a still strong genre in the modern age. There isn’t as much big band artist around like there was in the 90′s, which is why I wanted to cover as many branches as possible. This lead me to Techno Swing. Techo Swing is a popular genre of music in Europe, which keeps the style of swing music and gives it an interesting edge. My show presents Techo swing the most because it seems like an unexplored style on campus.

Right now I’m trying to expand and make another program with another DJ, Sammy D, but the progress has been slow due to scheduling. But it will happen this year!

My show, If It Ain’t Got That Swing, is on Tuesday nights from 8-9. If you don’t know how to listen follow this link:
