This past week, I’ve had three 8:30 classes canceled and one more that lasted only 15 minutes. So, it’s been a pretty good week.
Now, I like my professors and I like my classes, so it’s not like I’m thinking “Yay! I don’t have to go and hear about British Literature or Social Theory for an hour and a half.” No, it’s more that I’m thinking “Yay! I have more time to do this…”
I have an 8:30 class every day this term, and though this isn’t as terrible as I thought it would be, any extra time in bed is a good thing.
However, I’m starting to think that a little bit of my mindset from the first five weeks of term is carrying over. Weeks 4 and 5 were completely crazy. I had one 10-12 page paper and one 5-page paper due the same day, as well as all the reading and regular homework that I had to do for class. Also, I had a ton of stuff to do on weekends with clubs, so I couldn’t even really relax then. So, with all the free time I had this week, I started feeling like I wasn’t being productive enough when I was spending time on Facebook or reading (for fun) after I’d finished all the homework I needed to do that day.
“I should be doing something. Isn’t there something I can do? Ok, let me take out my planner and check if I have other things to do.”
Despite being on break for three weeks, I think I was expecting that I would be going 100 miles an hour as soon as I got back here. Maybe that’s because I have two 10-12 page papers due week 10 and another one due finals week. But I don’t have the prompts or the information for them yet, so I couldn’t really start working.
Finally, I realized that I should just enjoy the time I had. Because week 9 and week 10 sure aren’t going to be like this.
I watched some episodes of TV shows online (and didn’t have to feel guilty about it), worked on the picture I’m currently drawing, did some writing, some reading, and got to watch a few Bulls games in their entirety (something I definitely didn’t get to do much before break).
Week 6 was very relaxing (something you will rarely hear from me about any week in college), and I’m glad I had some time to myself.
