Not many students know that Augie has an Equestrian Team.
Well, we do! :)And it is made up of some awesome girls!
What does the team do? Well, normally a person would have their own horse and train and work mostly with that horse in order to show and compete. However, for the team we travel to other schools (well, where they ride) and ride their horses(chosen for you at random). A show consists of flat work that involves being able to control the horse your on and being able to do what the judge asks. There are also jumping classes which can be a little more tricky when you don’t know the horse, sometimes they are more excited and sometimes they can refuse to jump. All in all part of your score just depends on the horse you draw despite how good of a rider you may be but in the end it is always a fun day 🙂
We had our first show this last weekend up in Madison, Wisconsin! Their arena was outside so it was a new experience for some people. Aside from being outside in the first place it also rained all weekend! The horses didn’t mind it so much but people were drenched from head to toe and it wasn’t exactly warm outside. For some of out girls, including me, this was our first horse show ever! Needless to say we had worked out our fears and nerves by the end of the weekend. Some of our girls had some difficult horses to ride on Saturday but they more than made up for it sunday when we had two 1st places and a second place on Sunday!
We have another show this upcoming weekend and it will be our home show, although we are hosting it in Waucounda, wish us luck!
