Since I’ve had 33 posts since I first introduced myself, I decided it was time for a reintroduction. I know I’ve changed a lot since I first started blogging, so I figured I will update all of you old readers and fill in all of you new readers. I’m now a senior here at Augustana majoring in Political Science, Communication Studies, and Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communications (we just call it MJMC). Freshman year I intended to major in Political Science and minor in music, so as you can see, I’ve definitely changed since freshman year!
I’m super involved on campus and really enjoy every minute of it. I’m currently the Opinions Editor for the Augustana Observer, the school newspaper. This means I come up with column ideas and help write the editorial. Honestly, if I hadn’t needed money my sophomore year and decided to show up to the Observer meeting, I probably wouldn’t be majoring MJMC and realized my passion for journalism.
I’m also the program director for WAUG, the student run radio station. I schedule everyone’s show and help DJs with their radio show. I’ve been able to meet so many people I probably wouldn’t be friends with otherwise through WAUG.
I was also recently elected parliamentarian (speaker) of Student Government, which is a huge honor. I’m the one who basically runs the meeting using Robert’s Rules of parliamentary procedure. While I knew the basics of parliamentary procedure prior, it is very different being the speaker. I am also the corresponding secretary for Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI), which is a musical fraternity for women. As corresponding secretary, I deal with alumni relations. I’m so glad I joined SAI. I’ve met so many incredible women who share my same passion for music. Not going to lie, I went to their informational meeting because I had nothing better to do and my roommate was going. Best decision of my life.
One of the activities that I do that is closest to my heart is probably Club Tennis. My freshman year, I was on varsity tennis with two of my friends. We didn’t make it sophomore year, so we started Club Tennis. It’s awesome seeing our club grow these past few years.
I am also the President of College Democrats. We recently had the opportunity to see President Obama speak and shake his hand! In the past few years, this club has been pretty tiny, so I’m glad this year we’ve acquired a lot of new members.
I’m also the communications director for Mortar Board, on the exec board for the communications honor society Lambda Pi Eta, a member of honor society Omicron Delta Kappa, and I play oboe in concert band. I’ve also interned over the summer for a Congressman on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and WGN Radio.
Hope that’s a little insight into everything I do here at Augustana. If you have any questions about these organizations, don’t hesitate to ask! I love talking about everything I do!
