A window inside life at Augustana College

How I Keep it Current

I have written before on how much I have loved my time at Augie so far. One of the reasons that I love being an student here is WAUG.

If you don’t know, WAUG is the student-run radio station on campus. Any student can have their own radio show for a few hours a week and they can play and talk about whatever they want (as long as it’s appropriate). Basically, it’s awesome!

I didn’t know about WAUG until I saw their table at the Activities Fair during orientation week. They were hard to miss, as they were playing music and giving out CDs. I was interested but wasn’t totally sold. I’ve always been somewhat reserved and wasn’t sure I could do radio. But I decided to give it a shot anyway because hey, I’m interesting and listen to cool music.

I’m so glad I did decide to do a show because it is the best thing ever!

My show is a mix of random but cool music and the latest news around the world, in politics, and in science. Doing the show helps me stay up to date on current events and gives me an excuse to discover cool, new music.

I host my show Friday afternoons after my classes are over because it is the best way to relax after a stressful week of homework. I just sit in the studio for two hours and I talk about things that I want to talk about about and listen to music that I like. It’s truly spectacular.

Another thing that’s really cool about WAUG is that people tune in either online or on their cell phone, so your friends and family can listen even if they live on the other side of the globe!

Listen to Keeping It Current Fridays from 2-4pm!

So, whether you are a current or future student at Augie, I would encourage you to host a show on WAUG, if only for one term. It’s easy. It’s fun. It’s relaxing. It’s awesome!
