A window inside life at Augustana College

Back to Reality (Kind of): A Mississippi Wrapup-March 1, 2009

This is the final entry that I wrote about the Mississippi trip, it mainly serves as a recap…

For the sake of completeness, I feel that I should round out my trip and compose one final entry detailing my last day in Ocean Springs and the ride back. On Friday morning, we woke up, got changed, and headed out for Pascagoula just as we normally would. We made it there in record time, which was good, because we needed to quickly hurry up and finish the drywalling in about 2.5 hours. What with us being the hardcore men that we were, we screwed in the final piece of drywall at around 10:45, and were back on the road to Ocean Springs by 11. We finally got back to Camp Victor at around 11:30, where we promptly hopped in the showers, got our stuff collected and then met up for a group picture out in front before packing up and leaving. We were out of Ocean Springs by 12:30, and then there’s not much more to report until we got into Southaven, MS. Once we checked into our hotel(a Fairfield Inn) we went off to get some dinner. I went to Firehouse Subs(very good). After that, we went back to the hotel where we were free to while away the final night of the trip anyway we pleased. I did that by teaching one of my friends how to play the game of euchre, which I think I did a pretty good job at. At that point, it was around 11:30 PM, and since we had to be up at 7 AM Saturday morning, I deemed it prudent to get some sleep. After that, I woke up at 7 AM on Saturday, took a shower, reloaded my stuff into the vans, got breakfast, then we were off on the last leg of our journey. After a few random gas/bathroom stops, we made a final stop in the town of Lincoln, Illinois, in order to have a home-cooked meal prepared for us by the parents of someone on the trip who lived in Lincoln. After that, we took a final picture of our van, and then made the last slog to Augustana. We were then dropped off at our respective dorms, and just like that, the trip was over…Memories that will last a lifetime, warm weather that unfortunately won’t…
