I have not updated this blog in a while. I was thinking about making the title of this blog ” Livin’ La Vida Loca” not because I’m a huge Ricky Martin fan but, because my life has been crazy lately.
Here is a brief synposis of what I have been up to. I am currently enrolled in 4 classes including a 5 week class that started today.
Constitutional Law: We are reading a lot of really interesting cases for this class. Right now, we are also talking about legal issues relating to the War on Terror. I have realized that I am very passionate about human rights issues. We recently discussed the legal issues surronding torture at Guantanamo Bay after 9/11. Also, we have looked at other interesting cases such as Plessy v. Ferguson, Roe v. Wade, Brown v. Board of Education, Boy Scouts v. Dale and McDonald v. City of Chicago.
Introduction to Anthropology: I have been learning a lot in this class too. I am working on a research paper on favelas in Brazil. A few weeks ago, I went to a panel discussion with Olson-Brandelle artists. They were Native American arists. It was so interesting!
Victim’s Advocacy: I LOVE THIS CLASS! We are training with Family Resources to work with Domestic Violence and Rape victims. We have been discussing a lot of different topics. It has been given me a new perspective on my daily life.
Families, Social Welfare and Policy: This class just started today but from the syllabus it looks really interesting. I am excited to start the readings and I hope to do my media project based on the song Runaway Love by Ludacris.
Additionally, I have Sing and Yell Practice for homecoming two hours twice a week, a meeting for the Educational Policy Committee, Pre-Law Club exec board responsibilites, work in Admissions and Swing Club lessons/ meetings. I like to be busy but, this term is definitely jam packed. Also, I have been spending a lot of time in my new apartment with my three lovely roommates. I have been doing a lot of thinking lately but, I will save that for the next post. I am going to head back to my homework. 🙂 I will write another update soon!
