“It is always the simple things that change our lives. And these things never happen when you are looking for them to happen. Life will reveal answers at the pace life wishes to do so. You feel like running, but life is on a stroll. This is how God does things.”
I feel like it has been forever since I have written on my blog! I promise to try to write more messages especially since I have finally figured out how to categorized everything. I guess technology is not always my strongest point. I am going to do my best to explain what has been going on with me since my last entry.
A lot has been going on for me this term. I don’t even know where to start! First of all, after careful consideration I have decided to change my major. Originally, I was Business and Political Science. After this term, I hope to add a new major. I am going to be Business (Management) and Sociology with a concentration in Social Welfare with a minor in Political Science. I have been going over the course offering book this break and it should work out perfectly. Right now, I am in this class called Intro to Social Welfare and i love it. You will probably hear me talk about it a lot! I really like the books we are reading. We are doing a class wide service project. My favorite part is the outside service component because we are in the process of fixing up a house for local women and children to live in. It is awesome! I have been looking into Loyola’s program for a dual degree ( MSW and JD) or in simple terms I could have a degree for both social work and law. As usual, I don’t have a concrete idea of what I want to do but, I know this is something I love. My advisor, Professor Mariano Magalhaes has been giving me advice through this whole process. He has been a great help and a very postive mentor. From here, we will see where everything goes…
The next exciting news I am going to share is about the Mock Trial Team! I have been helping to start up a Mock Trial team at Augustana. Basically, we have a fake court case that we compete against other schools. Our case is State of Midlands v. Jackie Owens and it is a murder case! Our school has a very unique situation because we are starting practice for our team later than most. Most schools have been preparing since the beginning of the year but, our team is just starting because it took a while to find people who were interested. I was about to drop out of Regionals and wait until next year but, everyone wanted to give it a try. I am so excited! I think by the time I am a junior or a senior, we are going to be doing great things.
I am back to working at a law firm over break like I was this summer. I am very lucky to have this job. The only thing I don’t like is waking up at 6:30 to get ready for work and to catch a train downtown. But, I have been getting use to it again….
Christmas was yesterday. What an amazing time! I was able to spend a lot of time with my family. This will be the first Christmas that my Aunt Ida was not there so that was sad. I was able to visit her while I was home on break before she passed. I was unable to make the wake and funeral because I was away at school. Additionally, there was a fire at my grandparent’s house. They were on the 6 o’clock news! It was the first year that I can remember that Christmas Day was not at their house. We went to my uncles instead and it was perfect. I think my grandparents are getting anxious to see when they can go home. They are taking it well and I am happy that they are safe.
I was also lucky enough to spend a lot of time playing with my youngest cousin and goddaughter, Mia. She is adorable and I let her use my camera to take some pictures. They are hilarious! She is adorable.
Basically, that is what has been going on it my life right now. It is snowing like crazy today….I can’t wait to continue the updates… Happy Holidays
