Hey!! My name is Alicia Oken and I’m currently a senior at Augustana. Originally I’m from Naperville, IL. I’m triple majoring in Political Science, Communication Studies and Multimedia Journalism. I’m very involved on campus with WAUG, the Augustana Observer, College Democrats, Student Government Association, Club Tennis and Sigma Alpha Iota. I also love pop in glass bottles, press pennis and gummy bears. I hope you’ll enjoy reading my blog!
Mayday Parade/The Maine Concert
Instead of studying for finals and finishing the two papers I have to write, I went to Chicago with a friend to see Mayday Parade and The Maine in concert. Mayday Parade is my favorite band – ever. Period. End of story (At least since my Jonas Brothers phase). I was so glad I found [...]

SAI Alumnae Tea
Since I am the Corresponding Secretary of Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI), it was my job to coordinate and plan our chapter’s alumnae tea for homecoming. With the help of the alumnae tea committee, we pulled it off! There were a few glitches along the way, but in the end I think everyone enjoyed it. We [...]

Andy Grammer Concert
This is a picture of Chris Wallace, a former member of The White Tie Affair, a band I was really into in high school. He opened for Andy Grammer, who performed at Augustana last Friday. To say this was the best concert Augustana has ever had would be an understatement. It’s an incredible feeling hearing [...]

College Democrats: A promise fulfilled
When I visited Augustana my senior year of high school, I was promised that Augustana would be a great hotspot for politics. There was bound to be politicians coming through the area and there was going to be media. As a senior, being promised that one day, I could be interviewed about politics was pretty [...]

Meeting Zach Wahls
Last night I had the opportunity to hear an incredible speaker. Zach Wahls is a guy my age who was thrust into the spotlight after someone posted a video of him speaking in front of the Iowa legislature about marriage equality. He’s spoken on the Ellen Degeneres Show, CNN, MSNBC, and spoke at this year’s [...]

Walk for Water & Greek Fest
This past Saturday, I went to two very fun events. First I participated in Walk for Water. In this walk, we carried buckets of slough water around campus to symbolize the journey that those make all over the world to get clean water. All the funds raised help support a water filtration system in Kenya. Let me [...]

One major “done”
So, I officially have one major “done.” Done is in quotes because I still have to take 4 more credit hours spring term. But I have completed my Senior Inquiry (S.I.) project for my Multimedia Journalism & Mass Communication (MJMC) major. Because I have three majors, I decided to take the MJMC internship S.I. track [...]

A Reintroduction
Since I’ve had 33 posts since I first introduced myself, I decided it was time for a reintroduction. I know I’ve changed a lot since I first started blogging, so I figured I will update all of you old readers and fill in all of you new readers. I’m now a senior here at Augustana majoring [...]

WGN Radio Internship
I’ve finally gotten around to writing my blog about my summer internship. Maybe it’s because the longer I put it off, the longer I can deny that summer is really over? Probably. For nine weeks, I had the opportunity to intern at WGN Radio in the Tribune Tower in Chicago. I interned for the news [...]
