A window inside life at Augustana College

Hello, my name is Victoria Cartland and I am currently a senior (eeeek!) at Augustana College (the one in Rock Island, IL). I’m from Watertown, Minnesota, which is a small town about an hour west of the Twin Cities; however, I graduated from Coon Rapids High School.
I’m majoring in political science and sociology with a concentration in social welfare, and I’m minoring in women and gender studies; if I could I would add a major in Pinterest and Tumblr. Outside of class and extracurriculars, I like to be crafty, watch documentaries on Netflix, and use my sewing machine.
I spent part of my sophomore year and all of my junior year as a CA for the TLAs on campus, and was previously involved in the Residence Hall Association. I’m a member of both the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and the Chi Omega Gamma sorority. My favorite building on campus is Old Main and when I grow up I WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD.
If you have any questions feel free to comment or send me an e-mail (victoriacartland11@augustana.edu).

“College is the best time of your life. When else are your parents going to spend several thousand dollars a year just for you to go to a strange town and get drunk every night?”  ― David Wood “I imagine that one of the biggest troubles with colleges is there are too many distractions, too much […]

Here’s to the start of Week 3

Tomorrow starts Week 3. That means that of the 20 weeks of class I have at Augie this year, I have completed 1/10. I just looked at my countdown that I have and my official graduation date is 168 days away. I leave for Brazil in 25 days. Surprisingly, I’m not feeling that stressed. At […]

Wait what….I’m a senior?!?!

Fun fact: I’ve actually spent more time living at Augustana than I have living in my current home in Minnesota. Just before I graduated from high school my mother, brother, and I moved from Ham Lake, MN to Watertown, MN. I spent 2.5 months living in Watertown before moving to Augie. After my freshman year […]

Nobody has it all together and nobody can have it all

I’ve spent most of the summer trying to figure out where I will be in 6-9 months. I’ve actually spent most of the last 6 months trying to figure that out. I love to plan things. I like to make lists of what I need to do, or buy, or who I need to talk […]

Beauty in the Darkness

Beauty in the Darkness This week I have been reminded what life is really about. I’ve also been thinking a lot about what I want to get for my next tattoo, a lotus flower, which is far down the road, but it’s always nice to dream! Anyways this post connects those two things; what life […]

Graduating Early? Maybe.

One of my biggest goals I want to reach after graduation is to be financially stable, so I try and work. A lot. I don’t really make much money, but I figure if I’m used to working a lot now it will prepare me for when I’m a post-grad. I currently hold three jobs; one on […]

Relay for Life 2014

Let me just start this off by saying that Relay for Life is one of my favorite events at Augustana! There are so many people that come together for such a great cause and it’s a great place to see Greek group unity! Last year at Relay I walked somewhere around 13 miles, mostly in […]

Oh Happy Day

This weather has me in an excellent, and productive, mood. That also could have something to do with the three day juice cleanse I just finished though too. Anyways, I’m having a wonderful day, and I’ve been super productive as well. I went to work, I went and got fingerprinted, I went to the central […]

Junior Year is Hard – Let’s Be Reborn

My mentor, Alisha, once said that junior year of college is one of the hardest years on females. You classes are more challenging, your changing emotionally, and you pretty much get to accept that the body you have is as good as it’s going to get, as you’ve reached the end of the female growing […]

Picture Day

In high school, I was under the impression that after I graduated I would never have to deal with a “Picture Day” again. I was wrong. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for some people, there are still picture days in college, or at least at Augie. Today, I am supposed to take my composite picture for […]
