Honor Band Festival registration and schedule
The 2014 Augustana Honor Band Festival will take place Jan.19-20. Band members from high schools in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin will join forces for a two-day rehearsal and performance under guest conductor Don Shupe. Mr. Shupe received his bachelor and masters degrees from Northwestern University in 1973 and 1974, respectively. He served as director of bands at Libertyville High School from 1974-2010. Mr. Shupe is a member of the National Association for Music Education (formerly MENC), Phi Beta Nu and the American Bandmasters Association. In March of 1995, Mr. Shupe was honored as Educator of the Month, and in June of 1995, he received the Chicagoland Music Educator Award, sponsored by Quinlan and Fabish Music Company. In 1998, he received the Mr. Holland's Opus Award sponsored by Bob Rogers Travel. He was honored as the Educator of the Year for the 2001-2002 school year by the Libertyville High School Student Council. In 2008, Mr. Shupe received the Outstanding Bandmaster Award from Phi Beta Mu. In 2010, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Mu Hall of Fame. Upon his retirement, Mr. Shupe was honored with the John Paynter Lifetime Acheivement Award from the Quinlan and Fabish Music Company. While at Libertyville H.S., his bands received numerous awards, including being named the Class AAA Honor Band at the University of Illinois Superstate Festival several times from 1996-2009. The Libertyville High School Wind Ensemble also was chosen to perform at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in 1998 and 2004, as well as the American National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis in 2001, 2007, 2009 and 2013. In its appearance in 2007, the band received National Wind Band Honors in the highest class of AAAAA.
Directors may submit up to 10 nominated students by the Nov. 27 deadline. Directors may submit one student at a time (up to 10), but they only need to complete the director's information once. Complete all fields before submitting, including student's year in school.

5-5:30 p.m. Directors Meeting with Don Shupe, Ensemble Room, Bergendoff.
6:15 p.m. Seating for Blue Band on stage of Centennial Hall. Seating for Gold Band in Ensemble Room.
6:30-9:30 p.m. Full rehearsal of both Festival Bands. Blue Band on stage of Centennial Hall;
Gold Band in Ensemble Room. Breaks taken as necessary.
Monday, Jan. 20
7-8:15 a.m. Breakfast in Center for Student Life Dining Center. Participants must wear their festival nametags to
get breakfast at no charge.
8:30-11:30 a.m. Full rehearsal session of Blue Band in Ensemble Room; full rehearsal session of Gold Band on stage of Centennial Hall.
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Lunch served in Center for Student Life Dining Center. Participants must wear their festival nametags to get lunch at no charge.
Noon-1:30 p.m. Directors' Luncheon, Board Room (3rd Floor of the College Center)
1-1:30 p.m. Don Shupe rehearsal with Gold Band in the Ensemble Room.
1:30-4 p.m. Final rehearsal session of Blue Band in Centennial Hall; final rehearsal session of Gold Band in Ensemble Room.
4-5:45 p.m. Dinner break on your own. Augustana Symphonic Band rehearsal with
6-6:20 p.m. Dressed and in Centennial Hall.
6:30-8 p.m. Finale Concert: Performances by the Augustana Symphonic Band and the Festival
Bands. Open to the public with no admission charge; Centennial Hall.
