Greetings from Augustana!

Remember how beautiful the Augie campus is in autumn? The trees are changing color and the air is crisp as students make their way to morning class. For many students and alums, it is their favorite time of year on campus.

I encourage you to read the articles below to see all the alumni events and activities in the coming months. Whether it’s at Homecoming or for holiday concerts, for a weekend visit or a week-day stroll through the Quad, you are always welcome to return home to campus and visit with students, faculty and friends. Your involvement as a graduate makes us stronger both now and for the future.

We hope that you enjoy reading these periodic updates about our alma mater.

With warmest regards,

Sue Fleischman '79 Rector
Assistant Vice President for Development

College to launch 150th Anniversary Year Alumni Directory
Watch your mail and e-mail beginning in November for information about Augustana’s 150th Anniversary Alumni Directory and Online Community project. This exciting new directory, published through Harris Connect, will allow you to share much more detailed information, including photographs and personal statements, with your classmates and fellow alums. In addition, the directory also will feature an historical retrospective of the college’s 150 years and an online presence that includes a Facebook-integrated password-protected affinity site called the Augustana Online Community for connecting with other graduates and college groups online through searchable directories.

The economic crisis and Augustana
The financial crisis on Wall Street is having an impact on almost everyone in America, including America’s colleges and universities, writes Augustana College President Steve Bahls. It is increasingly clear that Augustana College is not immune from the crisis. The crisis will challenge each of us at the college to work together as a community, he says, to provide the best quality education for our students in a time of potentially shrinking resources.
