Following Augustana’s May 25 commencement ceremony, members of the Augustana Choir will prepare to embark on a three-week tour of Scandinavia that features nine concerts in Norway and Sweden. The concert itinerary features performances in many celebrated venues including Margareta Swedish Church in Oslo, Uppsala Cathedral in Uppsala, and St. Jacob’s Church in Stockholm.
The tour is the choir’s first to Sweden since 2001, a tour that included performances in Stockholm and the Uppsala Cathedral. In 1985, the Augustana Choir gave a special performance at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. An early highlight of the 1996-97 season was the participation by the choir in ceremonies honoring Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden.
During the 2008 tour, the Augustana Choir will join an alumni tour group to take part in ceremonies marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lars Paul Esbjörn, a native of Gävle who emigrated to the United States and worked to establish Augustana College nearly 150 years ago. The alumni group will be led by Kai Swanson ’86, Executive Assistant to the President and joined by President Steve Bahls during the tour.
