Reunion classes return to campus for Alumni Weekend

Among those attending the 50th reunion of the Class of 1958 is accomplished jazz pianist Bill Bell, who was profiled in a recent Quad City Times article headlined The Jazz Professor (Quad City Times, May 9, 2008). Bell, who has served for the last 20 years as chair of the Department of Music at northern California’s College of Alameda, will perform in concert for his classmates and other Alumni Weekend guests Saturday afternoon. Another distinguished member of that class, prairie landscape artist George Olson, will have a showing of his work on campus during the weekend.

Weekend highlights also include campus tours, receptions and the annual Alumni Association dinner the evening of Saturday, May 24, during which time the following individuals will be honored through the Alumni Association awards program.

Outstanding Achievement Awards: C. Marcus Olson ’32, Thomas Bellows ‘57

Outstanding Service Awards: Donald Anderson ’55 (posthumously), W. Bordner Munson ‘73

Robert W. Lane, chairman and chief executive officer of Deere & Company, will address the 508 members of the class of 2008 in the college's 148th Commencement Convocation at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25. That morning's Baccalaureate sermon will be given by the Reverend Gail E. Bowman, chaplain of Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
