Choir concerts and bicentennial events to highlight alumni tour of Scandinavia

Alumni participation in events celebrating the 200th birthday of Augustana founder Lars-Paul Esbjörn will highlight an alumni tour of Scandinavia scheduled for May 31 - June 16, 2008. The 16-day itinerary overlaps at numerous points with the Augustana Choir's tour of Sweden and includes stops in Copenhagen, Mälmo, Gothenburg, Oslo, Karlstad, Stockholm and Uppsala.

The Augustana Choir and the alumni tour group will actively participate in local celebrations at Gävle and Hille honoring Augustana founder Lars-Paul Esbjörn.

Born at Delsbo Sweden on October 16,1808, Rev. Esbjörn emigrated to the United States in 1849 with more than 100 members of his home congregation to settle in Andover, Illinois, where he began what later became the Augustana Synod, now part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Eleven years later, in 1860, he helped found Augustana College.

The tour, which is priced at $4,745, includes round trip air transportation on SAS from Chicago, 15 nights of hotel accommodations, 27 meals, ground transportation and extensive sightseeing. Kai Swanson ’86, executive assistant to the president, will accompany the tour as its escort and the group will also be joined Augustana College President Steven Bahls.

Tour reservations will remain open through mid-February. For additional information and to receive a brochure with full itinerary, deposit information and payment schedule, please contact:
