Conversations with President Bahls

"There is nothing more satisfying, many alums tell me, than working with young people and making it happen for young people. Whether that's assisting in an internship, finding the first job, providing financial assistance -- dreams come true here, but these dreams cannot come true without our alumni."

-President Steven C. Bahls

On December 2, 2008, Susan Black-Beth '99, President of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, met with President Steve Bahls met to discuss the ways in which alumni support Augustana College. Their wide-ranging conversation explored the many ways in which Augustana alumni can lend their strength to student recruitment, job placement for graduates and important fundraising initiatives. Augustana abroad: what students see below the surface

When Augustana’s students settled in London for a five-week stay during the most recent iteration of the college’s oldest and largest international study program, they found themselves residing in Kensington, a wealthy neighborhood in the western end of the city center—a bastion of the Tory party. It’s a borough of the city rich with history. As the abundance of blue plaques on buildings attests, it was the former home of many of its luminaries. (Read more)

Anderson, who touched the lives of hundreds of young people over a distinguished 40-year career as professor of geology at Augustana College, died peacefully Jan. 8 in Champaign-Urbana. A memorial service will be held in Rock Island, where Dr. Anderson lived most of his life, during the last week in March.

Dr. Anderson's family welcomes donations to the Richard C. Anderson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Augustana. Richard "Doc" Anderson was born April 22, 1930, in Moline. Augie football celebrates 25th
It was 25 years ago this past December that Augustana’s football team topped Union 21-17 to claim the first of four consecutive NCAA Division III national championships. That game, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, was played in Ohio, but the win set off a wild celebration at home. Hundreds of Augustana fans who didn’t make the trip stormed a vacant Ericson Field, tore down the goal posts and later took the pieces to the team when it arrived at the airport in Moline.

Immediate Scholarship Support Fund
Students are among those hardest hit by our nation’s current economic crisis. Some are struggling to secure loans; others are trying to sustain their family’s hope for their future, even as parents lose jobs. As a result, the need for financial assistance is greater than ever. Each week Augustana’s Office of Financial Assistance is contacted by new students in need of additional aid just to finish the term or academic year.

Working with Financial Assistance, we have developed a temporary initiative that is specially designed to meet the most urgent needs of our students during this unusual economic time: The Immediate Scholarship Support Fund. Please consider making a gift online (Read more)

Class of 2013 gets a glimpse of its future
January 24 was a big day for 318 young people who jammed classrooms and halls at Augustana College for the annual Open House and Scholarship Competition. Some were on campus for the first time, trying to take in everything at once. Others visited last summer or fall. Some already knew which professors they wanted to talk with for a more detailed picture of majors, coursework and possibilities. (Read more)
