Registration and Information

Tent in Quad behind Old Main (rain location: inside Old Main), 4-7 p.m.

Check in with the staff, pick up tickets and a campus map, and ask questions about the weekend.


Picnic dinner and ice cream social

Lower Quad by Slough (rain location: Center for Student Life), Gävle Room, 6-7 p.m.

Kick off Family Weekend 2014 with your grilled favorites and, of course, Whitey's ice cream.

Augustana legacy family reception and photo

Dahl President's Home, 7-8 p.m.

Many students at Augustana have been part of the Augustana family from the day they were born.  President Steve Bahls and Jane Easter Bahls invite current students with alumni parents and/or grandparents to a reception at the Dahl President's Home.  For Legacy families only; invitations will be mailed.  Contact Dawn Camlin at (309) 794-7589 with questions.

"A Different Way of Seeing: Swedish Art from the Charters Collection"This exhibition celebrates a recent major donation by Sam and Ann Charters of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Swedish art. A variety of media is represented, including paintings, works on paper, sculpture, and textiles.

Coffee and Conversation with Katie Hanson

Come have coffee and chat with Katie Hanson, chair of the Augie Reads committee. The committee selected "The Round House" as this year's selection.

Career Opportunity Research and Exploration (CORE) open house and information session

Olin Center, 9:30-11 a.m.

Stop by and meet the staff of the new Augie CORE office. A brief overview of the programs and opportunities available to students will be followed by time for Q&A.  Don't miss out on the fun giveaways!

Experiential Education Opportunities: This first session will focus on various experiential education opportunities available to your student including international and domestic travel opportunities, service learning and volunteer opportunities.

Career Development: This session is career focused and provides information on identifying internships, resume building and job placement.

Don't miss the official welcome brunch of Family Weekend 2014.  At 11:30 a.m. President Steve Bahls will provide a brief official welcome to families.

Discovering New Dinosaurs

Hanson Hall of Science, Room 102, 1-1:30 p.m.

Don't miss this Family Weekend favorite. Paleontologist Dr. William Hammer will talk about his Antarctic expeditions in search of new dinosaurs. Seats are limited — please reserve early!

President's Open House

Dahl Presidents Home, 2:30-4 p.m.

President Steve Bahls and Jane Easter Bahls invite students and their families up to the Dahl Presidents Home for an afternoon reception. Refreshments will be provided.

Family Pictures

While you are enjoying the President's Reception, take advantage of the photographers on location to take family portraits. The pictures are extremely popular and make excellent photos for Christmas cards.

BBQ pre-game grilled dinner

Quad, 4:45-5:45 p.m. (rain location Carver Center)

Join other families for this annual BBQ dinner underneath a tent in the Quad before the football game.

Augustana Vikings football vs. Loras College

Lindberg Stadium, 6 p.m.

Cheer on the Vikings in the brand new Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex. Enjoy the Ken Anderson Academic All-American Club and patio overlooking Ericson Field.

The Hunts

Centennial Hall, 8 p.m.

The Hunts are an indie-folk band from the southlands of Chesapeake, Virginia. These seven brothers and sisters have a passion for creating compelling music and so, have collaborated one another's gifts of writing, composing and musicianship to endeavor that. Stringed instruments, surrounded by enchanting harmonies and thrilling rhythms harken to an organic yet transcending sound.

Tickets are $10 for the public. Augustana students will receive one free ticket with their Augustana ID. Tickets may be purchased from the Centennial box office during normal office hours in advance of the show.

Sunday, Sept. 21

Outdoor ecumenical worship service- Rain location Ascension Chapel

Thomas Tredway Library gazebo, 10:30 a.m.

Join college chaplains Richard Priggie '74 and Kristen Glass Perez, for an outdoor service open to all.

Catholic mass will begin at 5 p.m. in Ascension Chapel.

Celebration Belle River Cruise lunch

2501 River Drive, Moline, noon-2 p.m.

Have lunch with your family while cruising the Mississippi River on the Celebration Belle, an 800-passengener paddlewheel boat. After lunch, passengers can explore one of the three decks overlooking the Quad Cities. Boarding begins at noon and the cruise departs at 12:30 p.m., returning at 2.
