From the President
To witness a vision as it comes into focus can be a very powerful experience. After extensive planning and hard work by many skilled hands, Emmy Carlsson Evald Hall is now serving students and faculty as home to five academic departments, our Center for Vocational Reflection and the Office of International Studies.
As you sense the moment you walk through its doors (which I hope you will be able to do soon), it is a vibrant place of learning and discovery. Although it was opened in 1928 as a dormitory, Authentically Augustana: A Call to Action has given Evald Hall a bright future as an integral and exceedingly handsome part of the college’s academic program.
Our mission now is to use this successful template in helping our most venerable building, Old Main, write the next chapters in its story, which dates back to the laying of its cornerstone, 124 years ago this November. As you read about—and, I hope, visit—the realized vision that is Evald Hall, I invite you to join me in considering how, together, we might create a yet grander vision for our grandest building, Old Main.
