What about Augustana stood out during your college search?

I noticed Augustana first because of its dedication to international students, as the college has an advisor especially for international students, a one-week orientation at the beginning of the year also devoted just for international students and various events for international students throughout the school year.

Which professor that has had a significant impact on your education?

I would say Dr. John Delaney is so far the one that has the most impact on my education, or to be more specific, my career choice. I took Accounting 101, which was instructed by Prof. Delaney, as part of the requirements for my major, and he has given me so much precious advice for my career choice and what is best for me.

How have you changed since you came to Augustana?

I have become significantly more active and open-minded, as I made a lot more friends through various activities on campus, learned more about other cultures, especially American culture, and gained a better understanding about the world.

What would surprise your friends from home about you now?

I feel like I have grown up since I moved to the United States, and they would be a little surprised by how much more mature I have become.

Describe a memorable class (or experience) and what you learned from it.

I took Christianity Origins class last year to fulfill the religion requirements that Augustana has, and I had to try so hard on every single assignment because to me, Christianity is a completely different religion from what I practiced at home. One day, I wrote a religion experience paper explaining to my religion teacher about my unfamiliarity with Christianity. I wrote about how not a lot of people in Vietnam are affiliated with this religion and how I really want to learn more about it and other religions over the world to gain a better worldview understanding. I saw my religion teacher last week when I was walking to upper campus, and he told me that he used that paper as an example of “good work” for the class he is teaching right now.

How would you describe campus life?

It is a very dynamic campus life here in Augustana, where various activities are held each week and suit almost everyone’s interests. Also, since Augustana is a small liberal arts school, I get to know and talk to a lot of people just by attending events and walking around campus. The atmosphere here is so friendly and open.
