Academic Merit Scholarships

Students are automatically considered for academic merit scholarships based on their application for admission. Students may receive one of the following awards based on their credentials. Notification of any award is included in a student's acceptance letter.

High school students

Presidential Scholarship $22,000 annually - Awarded to students with exceptional academic ability who also have demonstrated outstanding out-of-classroom and co-curricular involvement and good character.  Students typically have a 28 ACT composite score or higher (1250 to 1280 combined SAT score in critical reading and mathematics) and rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class.  To be eligible, a student must plan to enroll full-time at Augustana College.  Renewal requires full-time enrollment and an Augustana cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Dean's Scholarship $19,000 annually - Awarded to students with an excellent academic record and demonstrated co-curricular involvement and good character.  Students typically have a 25 to 27 ACT composite score (1130 to 1240 combined SAT score in critical reading and mathematics) and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class.  To be eligible, a student must plan to enroll full-time at Augustana College.  Renewal requires full-time enrollment and an Augustana cumulative 2.75 GPA.

Founders Scholarship $17,000 annually - Awarded to students whose high school course selection has been challenging, whose academic performance is strong and who have made significant contributions to their high schools and communities.  Students typically have a 23 to 24 ACT composite score or higher (1050 to 1120 combined SAT score in critical reading and mathematics) and rank in the top third of their high school class.  To be eligible, a student must plan to enroll full-time at Augustana College.  Renewal requires full-time enrollment and an Augustana cumulative 2.5 GPA.

Transfer students

Merit scholarships:
2013/14 Transfer scholarships
range from $8,500 to $12,500 each year, based on academic success.

2014/15 Transfer scholarships range from $10,000 to $18,000 each year, based on academic success. To qualify, you must have a grade-point average of 2.7 or higher, and 15 transferable credits. There is no additional application for scholarships - your admissions transfer team will automatically consider your application for merit scholarships.

18,000 annually - Students typically have a transferable college g.p.a. of 3.6 or higher, and 15 transferable credits. To be eligible, a student must plan to enroll full-time at Augustana College. Renewal requires full-time enrollment and a minimum Augustana cumulative GPA of 3.0.

16,000 annually - Students typically have a transferable college g.p.a. of 3.3 or higher, and 15 transferable credits. To be eligible, a student must plan to enroll full-time at Augustana College. Renewal requires full-time enrollment and a minimum Augustana cumulative GPA of 3.0.

14,000 annually - Students typically have a transferable college g.p.a. of 3.0 or higher, and 15 transferable credits. To be eligible, a student must plan to enroll full-time at Augustana College. Renewal requires full-time enrollment and a minimum Augustana cumulative GPA of 2.75.

10,000 annually - Students typically have a transferable college g.p.a. of 2.75 or higher, and 15 transferable credits. To be eligible, a student must plan to enroll full-time at Augustana College. Renewal requires full-time enrollment and a minimum Augustana cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK): $3,000 annually - Awarded to members of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. This scholarship is in addition to the transfer scholarship. Renewal requires full-time enrollment and a minimum Augustana cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Scholarships which do not require an application or audition process

Alumni Scholarship $1,000 annually - Given to students whose parent(s) are alumnae/alumni of Augustana College.

For Ohio Residents  A Minimum award of $2,500/year - the Austin E. Knowlton Scholarship is available to admissible students from Ohio, regardless of financial need. More information on the Austin E. Knowlton Scholarship.

Travel Scholarship $4,000 ($1000 per year for four years) for students who live outside of Illinois and attend one of our visit days or a personal admissions interview. Official campus visits must take place before March 1. Students must be accepted to the college to receive this award. More information on the Augustana Travel Award.

Major/Career Specific

Departmental Open House and Scholarship Competition $1000 annually - Awarded to winners of the January Departmental Open House and Scholarship Competition featuring more than 30 academic departments and nearly 90 majors and related areas of study. Renewed based on departmental criteria.

For Future ELCA Church Leaders Up to $5,000 annually - The Rissing Scholarship is awarded each year to students who wish to prepare for professional leadership in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Award is renewable by maintaining a 2.5 Augustana cumulative grade-point average. More information on the Rissing Scholarship.

Lucken Geology Scholarship Up to $4,000 annually - Established by 1962 graduates John E. and Mary Thorson Lucken, this merit-based scholarship is for geology majors. (More information on the Lucken Scholarship)

Endowed Scholarships: Amounts vary. These scholarships are made possible by friends of the College. The Office of Financial Assistance will advise you of any for which you qualify.

Fine Arts

Art Scholarship $500-$4,000 annually - Awarded to selected students after review of their portfolios. Renewal based on recommendation of the Art Department.

Debate Scholarship $500-$4,000 annually - Awarded to students based on their proficiency in debate as recommended by the Department of Speech Communication.

Honors Music Scholarships Up to $5,000 annually - Five, $5,000 scholarships (includes the Deisenroth, Morgan, and Nels and Emma Swanson Voice Scholarships) will be awarded to new students who need not be music majors, based on a music audition.

The Augustana Honors Music Scholarships award up to $4,000 to talented students, including non-majors, based on auditions. All awards are renewable upon the recommendations of the Music Department.

General Music Scholarships Up to $4,000 annually - General music scholarships award up to $4,000 annually to talented students, including non-majors, based on music auditions. Awards are renewable upon the recommendations of the Department of Music.

Carl B. Nelson Music Education Scholarship $500 annually - Awarded annually to 5 first-year student planning to major in music education. Renewal is based on recommendation of the Music Department. Can be combined with general or honors music scholarship.

Theatre Scholarships Up to $4,000 annually - The Judith Katz Memorial Theatre Scholarship is an award up to $4,000, renewable for four years. Please contact the Department of Theatre Arts for more details.

Other theatre scholarships are available up to $2,500, and are awarded to exceptional individuals pursuing performance, technical theatre, playwriting or criticism. All require an on-campus audition or presentation, and are renewable based on recommendations of the Department of Theatre Arts.

Other Scholarship and Award opportunities

Goodfit T-shirt Photo Contest $1000, one year scholarship. Awarded to five students who win a category in the college's annual Good Fit T-Shirt Contest.

Augustana Lutheran Award Up to $1,000 - Eligible Lutheran students will receive up to $1,000 per academic year for four years. Students receiving $1,000 or more in gift assistance from any other source (state, federal or Augustana aid programs) are not eligible for this award. To be considered for the scholarship, the student's pastor must send a letter to the Office of Financial Assistance prior to June 1 indicating the student is a member in good standing in the church.

For FAFSA Filers $500 - The Early Filers Award is for students who submit the FAFSA, officially signed by applicant and one parent, to be received by the Federal Processing Agency no later than February 1. Renewable with FAFSA completion by February 1 each year. Students may receive this award regardless of financial need.
