Apply for Admission to Augustana College (prospective first-year and transfer students)
You should apply to Augustana as early as possible in the fall of your senior year. A financial assistance package is prepared (March-April) after you have been accepted for admission and submitted all required forms to the Office of Financial Assistance.
- Complete the FAFSA after January 1
Apply for financial assistance by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 15. Augustana will mail instructions for completing the FAFSA in January to all students who have applied to the college. FAFSA on the Web Worksheets and paper FAFSA applications (which must be mailed to the processor) may also be available in high school guidance offices.
Although it is helpful to have filed federal tax returns prior to filing the FAFSA, you should estimate your income on the FAFSA if your tax return is not completed by March 15. Once 1040's are complete, you must correct your FAFSA data if you completed the FAFSA using estimated information. Eligible families can use the IRS data retrieval process when completing the FAFSA. This is a process that allows FAFSA filers to link to the IRS and transfer tax return information to the FAFSA. The Federal Department of Education and Augustana College recommend using the IRS data retrieval process as it saves time and reduces errors. If your taxes are filed when you complete the FAFSA, you will be prompted to use the IRS data retrieval. If your taxes are not yet completed, you can later upload that information when correcting your FAFSA once your taxes are filed. ** For Augustana to receive the results of your FAFSA, you must enter our Federal School Code of 001633. You should also list the codes for any other schools you may be considering.
Filing your FAFSA
You may file your FAFSA via the internet (working off of the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet) or by mailing the paper FAFSA to the processor using the envelope provided in the FAFSA application packet. One FAFSA should be submitted per student so only select one method of filing.
The preferred filing method is via the internet at the Federal Student Aid FAFSA site. Before you begin the FAFSA on the Web, apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) in order to electronically sign your FAFSA. One parent (see Section 3 of the Web Worksheet for clarification of "parent") and the student must apply for a PIN. Once PINs have been received, you can file your FAFSA entirely online. Should you opt to file on the web but do not have PINs, you will need to print the "Signature Page" from the FAFSA site, sign (both the student and one parent), and mail to the federal processor.
The FAFSA on the Web Worksheet should be used as a "pre-application" worksheet of your data before entering online. The worksheet closely mirrors the sequence of questions associated with FAFSA on the Web. We recommend you keep the Web Worksheet for your records.
Complete the 2014-15 Financial Assistance Information Form
The 2014-15 Financial Assistance Information Form is required on an annual basis for all students regardless of the type of assistance you pursue. The form will be mailed to both prospective and current students in January with the FAFSA filing instructions.
For all incoming students, please complete the

For all returning students, please complete the
2014-15 Returning Student Financial Assistance Information Form.
- Additional Documents May be Requested by the Financial Assistance Office
In some cases, you will be required to submit additional documents (i.e. copies of Federal IRS Tax Transcript, unemployment documentation, Dependent Student Verification Form). If you are required to submit such documents, you will receive further communications from the Office of Financial Assistance.
If requested, receipt of these documents will be required before assistance eligibility is determined. If an IRS tax transcript is required, you may be asked to submit the following:
- Parent's and student's 2013 Federal 1099-R forms.
- W-2 forms if the parent and/or student are a non-filer.
After you have been accepted for admission to Augustana, the results of your FAFSA and other requested documents have been received, your file will be reviewed. Augustana will prepare a financial assistance package for you that may include scholarships, grants, loans, and/or work-study. Your "Financial Assistance Award Notification" will be mailed to you at your home address. You may accept the plan in total or in part.
We will begin mailing Award Notifications for prospective first-year and transfer students beginning March 1.
General Information Regarding Applying for Financial Assistance
Scholarships, grants, and other need-based assistance are awarded on an annual basis. To receive need-based assistance, you must complete the FAFSA each year. Renewal for all awards requires maintaining satisfactory academic progress and financial need. To receive need-based assistance, you must complete the FAFSA each year. Need-based awards may be continued, increased, or decreased depending on changes in the families' expected contributions. As a general rule, if you demonstrate comparable financial need from year to year, comparable assistance may be expected.
Non-need-based awards such as academic and talent scholarships will be renewed automatically provided the student has fulfilled the renewal criteria originally outlined in the award notification material.
