What did you do before Augustana: In college I was part of the Delta Chi Theta social sorority and was a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Quad Cities.  I was also a student worker in the financial assistance office.

Which departments do you act as a liaison for?  I am currently the Admissions liaison for Geology, Geography, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, Physics/Pre-engineering, and Math and Computer Science.

What do you most love to tell prospective students about Augustana?  I love talking to families about what unique opportunities Augustana has to offer in terms of internships and study abroad programs.  As much as we love having our students on campus, we want them to get that real world experience and gain the hands on knowledge they will need to succeed later in life.  We have so many students that take advantage of these programs and we keep adding new ones every year!

What is your favorite time/tradition of the Augustana school year?  My favorite time on campus is by far Homecoming.  Not only do you see so many familiar faces and there are a ton of activities all week long, but it's in the middle of October and anyone who knows our campus knows that Augie in the fall is absolutely gorgeous!  It's always a great time to catch up with your old classmates and share stories.  To top it off we are always treated to a great football game courtesy of our Vikings!

What's great about the Quad Cities?  I grew up about 45 minutes away from the Quad Cities so I was always acquainted with this area and what it had to offer.  When I was picking a college what drew me to Augie was the variety that comes with the QCA.  Between the festivals, parks, farmers markets, unique shops, and restaurants there is always something to do.  I hopped at the chance to stay in this area once I graduated!  My husband and I now live in Davenport, IA and work in Illinois so we really get the best of both worlds!

What do you like to do around the community?  Whether it's going to a River Bandits game, hitting up the Freight House Farmers Market on a Saturday morning, getting a latte at Cool Beanz down the block from campus, or eating at La Flama (best chicken enchiladas around!), there is always something to do.

Do you do volunteer service in the community? Where?  I volunteer at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport, IA.

Why did you decide to work in this field and/or at Augustana?  Once I graduated from Augie, I knew I wanted to help high school students with their college decision process.  I remember when my admissions counselor from Augie came to my high school and what an impact he made in my college choice.  When I meet with families I always want them to feel that they can ask me anything and there is no such thing as a "silly question".  Believe me, we have heard them all!   There are so many factors to take into consideration when choosing a college and my hope is that I make that process a little easier for that family.

What advice do you have for students who are searching for the right college for them?  You should never have to force yourself to love a school.  When you are on your campus tour you will just feel it.  If it's the right place then you should be able to picture yourself there for four years and loving every minute of it.  If you don't feel it then it might not be the right place for you.  Also, make sure when you visit a school to ask if you can sit in on a class because that gives you that firsthand experience of being a college student.
