Coordinator: Vicki Sommer, Associate Professor (Sociology, Anthropology and Social Welfare)

Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary field examining global conditions and issues for women both historically and present day. The gender analysis may be applied to cultural representations of women and men, gender stratification, gender dynamics in social institutions such as the family, economy, polity and religion, and to interpersonal relations and communications. There is an emphasis on women's participation in the construction of knowledge and in decisions regarding moral, ethical and aesthetic values.

The Major/Minor in Women's and Gender Studies includes both specialized courses and courses from the general education curriculum which have the new scholarship on women and/or use gender analysis as a significant component. Internship and graduate school information is available from the Coordinator.
