Jeffrey Coussens


Jeffrey Coussens is Professor and Chair of the Theatre Arts Department at Augustana. Jeff has an MFA in Acting from Indiana University, and he is proud to say that he is also an Augustana alum. He teaches the acting and directing courses at Augustana and as directs productions within the season.

He has directed over thirty productions, including Cyrano De Bergerac, The Miser, The Laramie Project, The Visit, Equus, and Picnic. Jeff has also appeared in many stage plays, including recent performances as Michael in Lee Blessing’s Two Rooms, John in David Mamet’s Oleanna, and Ross in Rebecca Gilman’s Spinning Into Butter. Jeff’s special area of interest is stage combat.

He is a member of the Society of American Fight Directors and he has choreographed fight scenes for many Shakespeare productions including Othello, As You Like It, Hamlet, and Macbeth. Jeff is also a member of the Illinois Theatre Association, Theatre Communications Group, and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.In his life off campus, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, and his two daughters, Emily and Ava.
