Instructors: Dr. Charles Schmidt, Dr. Mary Neil, Dr. Robert Elfline

Dr. Schmidt, a native of St. Louis, received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and received his doctorate from Michigan State University. (Full bio)

Dr. Neil, an associate professor and area coordinator of piano at Augustana, received her B.A. from Western Illinois. Her M.F.A. and D.M.A. degrees in piano performance and pedagogy are from the University of Iowa. (Full bio)

Dr. Elfline earned his bachelor's degree at Illinois Wesleyan and his master's from Rice University. He received his doctorate from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. (Full bio)

Program dates: June 22-25, 2014

Program cost: $450

Includes lodging, all meals and any field trips. Students arrive on campus Sunday, June 22, and depart Wednesday, June 25.

Course description

In this course, students will be part of an intensive three day experience hosted by the piano faculty of Augustana College. They will receive one on one instruction in music theory, keyboard history, and keyboard technology. In addition students will take part in daily lessons and practice. The academy will conclude with a participants’ recital, which will be open to the public.

Students should bring at least two pieces of music with them: one piece they have completed or performed (memorization is optional), and one or two pieces they are in the process of learning.
