Augustana String Program

The string area at Augustana is very active in performance and education. String players at Augustana find themselves involved in the string program in a number of ways. They may take applied lessons, perform in the Augustana Symphony Orchestra, play in a string quartet, or teach beginning string students. With their student chapter of American String Teacher's Association, Augustana String students have the opportunity to teach on and off-campus in a variety of classroom and workshop settings. The Augustana string program offers a wealth of opportunity for any string player, regardless of major, to continue their music education with top notch faculty and conductors.

String area hosts violapalooza-April 22, 2007

The Augustana Viola Ensemble (assisted by 3 "lower clef" friends on
cello and bass, and one harpsichordist) kicked off Violapalooza! with a
performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #6 in Wallenberg Hall on
Sunday evening, April 16. They were then joined on stage by over 30
local viola students who had brought their instruments to play viola
ensembles with them. Of course,"Being a violist means never having to
say you're hungry", so after making such great music, everyone followed
up with pizza and conversation (about viola playing, of course!). This
event was sponsored by Augustana's own student chapter of the American
String Association (ASTA), and their tremendous work left all the
performers and audience at evening's end with smiles on their faces.
