The music scholarship application and materials listed below are required for scholarship auditions.

Audition Dates: February 5-6, 2010
All materials for Honors Music Scholarship Weekend are due at the Department of Music no later than January 1, 2010.
Application – Please submit the Music Scholarship Application for Audition no later than January 1, 2010. Your general application for admission to Augustana College should be complete by the audition date.
Preliminary Recording – Audition material should include approximately 8-10 minutes of music, following the audition guidelines below. Cds and tapes accepted-no videos or emailed mp3 files. Due January 1, 2010.
Instrumentalists – Prepare one movement of a suite, sonata, or concerto, and a work in a contrasting style. An etude may be substituted for one of the above.
Vocalists – Prepare two or three songs in contrasting style, preferably one in a foreign language. Memorization is recommended. A short vocal exercise also will be required.
Notification – After review of the tapes and application materials, approximately 20 students will be invited to audition on campus on February 5-6, 2010. Finalists will be expected to attend both audition dates.
These scholarships for potential music education majors are bonus awards to be added to a Honors or General music scholarship. The materials for this award should be submitted by the Honors or General scholarship deadline for which you are applying. Only students with complete materials will be scheduled for an interview. (If you are applying for the Honors weekend, your deadline for everything is January 1, 2010. If you are applying for the March 14 date, your deadline for everything is February 12, 2010., etc.)
Application – Students must be intending to major in music education and have a high school g.p.a. of at least 3.0. Please submit the Music Scholarship Application by the deadline listed. Your application for admission to Augustana College should also be complete by the audition date.
Letter of Recommendation – Include a brief letter from a reference in the profession of music or education. Letters can be emailed to margaretellis@augustana.edu. Due by deadline listed.
Audition – You must apply for a music scholarship to be considered for this bonus award.
Interview – An interview with the music education scholarship committee will be scheduled to correspond with music scholarship audition date and time.

March 13, 2010 (application due 2/12/10)

Notification – Applicants will receive detailed information by email concerning their audition time approximately two weeks before the audition. Accompanists will be provided for vocal auditions only. Audition materials should follow the guidelines below.
Instrumentalists – One movement of a suite, sonata, or concerto, and a work in a contrasting style, no more than 8 minutes total. An etude may be substituted for one of the above. Sightreading will be required, scales may be required. You may perform without accompaniment or provide your own accompanist.
Vocalists – Two songs in contrasting style, preferably one in a foreign language, no more than 6 minutes total. Songs should be in a style appropriate for contests and should be memorized. A short vocal exercise and sightreading also will be required. An accompanist will be provided.
