Careers/Outcomes

The Religion Department at Augustana serves at least four different types of majors who have distinct goals, careers, and vocational interests.

  • 1.Pre-Professionals: the religion department's emphasis on critical thought, ethical reflection, and the study of religious and cultural differences prepare students for careers in international relations, law, public policy, nonprofit agencies, community service and other important professional work.Included are professional careers in:

  • 2.Church Pre-Professionals: students often declare a major or minor in religion to pursue a life as a church worker. Church work includes ordained ministry (which usually requires an additional degree) as well as other careers in church music, education, and leadership.Careers in the church include:

  • ·Youth Director
  • ·Music Director
  • ·Camp Ministry
  • ·Missionary
  • 3.Academics: there are majors and minors who study religion at Augustana to pursue graduate studies in religion, theology, and other disciplines such as psychology, sociology, history, and various fields. After graduation these students typically attend graduate school in order to research, write, and teach. Academic careers include:
