Communication Studies
Major Requirements
Students who major in Communication Studies are expected to take at least 28 credits in Communication Studies distributed in the following fashion.
REQUIRED COURSES
At least one presentational skills course from among the following:
COMM 104 Public Speaking (1st and 2nd years only)
COMM 204 Argumentation and Oral Advocacy
COMM 301 Performance Studies
COMM 401 Business & Professional Communication
At least two of the following courses for a total of 6 credits:
COMM 210 Communication and Social Relationships
COMM 211 Communication, Politics and Citizenship
COMM 212 Advertising and Social Influence
At least one of the following courses for a total of 3 credits:
COMM 320 CommunicationTheory I: Rhetorical
COMM 321 Communication Theory II: Social Science
COMM 322 Communication Theory III: Media
Take at least 3, but no more than 6, courses in Inquiry, at least one course in each category, from:

COMM 371 Historiography of Communication
COMM 372 Rhetorical Criticism (language and form)
COMM 374 Media Content Analysis (quantitative)
COMM 375 Critical Media Analysis (semiotics, visual communication, representation)
Human Inquiry:

COMM 383 Experiments and Controlled Observations
