Lane Cove National Park occupies a bush land valley in Northern Metropolitan Sydney, Australia, extending along the Lane Cove River from East Ryde, below Fullers Bridge, Chatswood to Turramurra and Pennant Hills. Lane Cove National Park is now open at all entrances following major improvements, which finished in late 2007. The Park is totally surrounded by urban development, with approximately 2000 properties adjoining the Park. The lengthy urban/bush land interface and narrow v-shaped valley places the conservation of the Park under considerable immediate and sustained threat, e.g. from weed infestation, storm water pollution and land encroachments.
Why are you participating in the "Augustana in Australia" program?
I want to get some experience in a professional field to help me determine what I would like to do after graduation. Also, I want to get experience working in an international setting and travel to a place that I may not otherwise to visit.
What value do you hope to add back to the internship site?
I hope to be positive and hard-working at the internship sites, and I would love to offer my ideas and insights where appropriate.
What do you hope to learn on your internship?
I hope to learn a great deal about what it really means to be a professional in my field. Additionally, I hope to learn about myself and my interests in the professional world.
Where do you plan to travel during your term "down under?"
I don't know yet. I hope to get to know Sydney well, but also see some of the rest of the country. I would like to get to Ayers Rock, but I know it's pretty far from Sydney. I would also like to see some natural parks and possibly Melbourne or Brisbane.
What do you anticipate to be the highlight of your experience "down under?"
I can't answer this question appropriately, as I have not yet had the experience. I am looking forward to getting a new perspective on the world.
