The Athena School
The Athena School is an independent, co-educational school, which provides a nurturing learning environment for students from Pre-Kindergarten through Primary and High School to Year 10, whilst being educated on the NSW Board of Studies Curriculum. The Athena School was founded in 1986 by a group of concerned parents, who recognised that not all teaching results in students actually learning and that the future of our society depends upon the ability to learn and put that knowledge into use.
Why are you participating in the "Augustana in Australia" program?
I am participating in the program because I figured it would be a really fun thing to do my senior year. I wanted to go abroad at some point during my four years at Augie, and I chose this program because I have never been there and I can get more experience in the education field. Also, it's five weeks long which is perfect for me because I think I would be homesick if I were to be gone for a full ten weeks.
What value do you hope to add back to the internship site?
I hope to maintain the internship site's good reputation and contribute to it in any way that I can.
What do you hope to learn on your internship?
I hope to learn more about myself as an educator. I hope to build up confidence in by abilities and gain more experience in the education field before I begin applying for jobs.
Where do you plan to travel during your term "down under?"
I don't have any specific travel plans yet. I think part of the fun of the trip will be making spontaneous plans while I am there.
What do you anticipate to be the highlight of your experience "down under?"
I can't wait to spend the day at my internship site doing something I love to do and meet up with friends to explore Sydney together for the rest of the day.
