Exchange Programs

Immerse Yourself in Another Culture on an Augustana Exchange.

It's a whole new university experience when you enroll at a partner school through Augustana.

Exchange programs offer you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of a university campus across the globe.  With 7 different destinations, and options for trimester, semester or year-long exchanges, you have options that can set your college years apart.  Study in English or immerse yourself in another language, exchanges let you choose how adventurous to be.  These programs are ideal for students who want to become part of a new community, make new friends, study in a new environment and experience life through the eyes of a different culture.

Five reasons to consider an exchange program.

1. Exchange programs allow you to study in your major or across the curriculum of an entire university.

2. Exchange programs are true immersion: living, studying and learning among international students.

3. Exchange programs carry no additional study abroad fees or charges, making them very affordable.

4. Exchange programs allow you to study in English and/or a second language, as you choose.

5. Exchange programs remove you from the Augie bubble and allow you to join a new campus environment.

Why an exchange program might be right for you?

Are you an independent person, willing to challenge yourself in a new educational environment?  Do you want intensive language study, or perhaps you want to really get to know a new part of the world?  Do you want an authentic experience in an international university?   Whether for a term, a semester or a year, exchange programs are perfect for students who want to experience what life and what college is like around the world.  An exchange lets you go deeper into the host culture than you will if you travel with a large group of Augie students, and it gives you the ability to take classes with native students.

Add to this the fact that because you pay Augie tuition, instead of a program fee, exchanges are an affordable option for students, and with pre-approval processes, you can verify that all your coursework will transfer back to Augustana before you leave.

It takes an adventurous, self-confident and motivated student to truly get the most out of an exchange program, but if you are excited by the idea of living, studying and experiencing another culture without the "Augie bubble", exchanges might be just what you are looking for.

Application guidelines for an exchange program:  Students must hold a 2.50 GPA or higher to be eligible for an exchange program.  To avoid potential closure of the program due to overenrollment. students should apply by the January application period for a program the following year.  However, if open slots remain in the program, students interested in the January-June programs in Botswana, Lingnan or Uppsala, as well as the Spring programs in Germany or Japan may apply as late as September of the program year.

Once accepted by Augustana, students will be required to apply to the partner school as well.  Instructions on how to complete the partner school application as well as any visa requirements, course transfer processes and course selection will be provided to students upon their acceptance by Augustana.

All standard financial aid is available to students on exchange programs as if they were spending the term(s) on campus. Exchange programs are eligible for Augie Choice for all students in their junior or senior year (6 terms or 60 credits completed at time of departure).  Students who opt to enroll in at least 6 credits of coursework in a language other than English may also apply for Freistat Language Immersion Grants.
