International & Off-Campus Program Staff
The International Programs Office was established in 2006, and is staffed by Dr. Allen Bertsche, Director, CEC Office managers and student workers.
Allen Bertsche received his B.A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Indiana University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began teaching at Augustana in 1996, where as a member of the Spanish Department he worked to create two new international programs in Spain, coordinate the longstanding Summer Spanish Program in the Andes and directed four Fall Term in Latin America programs. Dr. Bertsche has been a member of the International Study Committee since 1997 and served as Spanish Department Chair from 2005 until 2011.
In June of 2010 he took over as Director of International Programs at Augustana. His responsibilities include working with faculty to create, expand and develop Augustana International and Off-Campus programs as well as to assist students who seek to study, intern or volunteer overseas. His office supports the college's mission towards a globalized curriculum and a rich offering of international experiences. Dr. Bertsche has lived, studied, worked or traveled in Spain, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Russia, Japan, Ghana and Canada.
