and then travel to Berlin and Leipzig for 4 weeks in June.

A Learning Community comprised of joint courses in History and Philosophy on Augustana's campus in the spring, followed by a 4-week summer field study program centered in Berlin and Leipzig, Germany.  This unique study abroad program combines shared learning in the two fields of study and four weeks of on-the-ground experiential learning in Germany.

Academics: No prior study of German is required for this program.  It fulfills both an LC and two LP requirements.  Coursework will begin in Spring Term, but will not be completed until the early summer (June) immersion in Berlin. Seniors who particiipate will be considered summer graduates.  Courses included in this 2-course LC are:

HISTORY 315: Modern Germany.  Taught by Dr. D. Ellis. (PP)

PHILOSOPHY 341: Phenomenology & Existentialism.  Taught by Dr. H. Storl (PH)

Seniors should pay particular attention to the timing of this program.   Senior students who need any portion of this coursework in order to complete degree requirements do not graduate in the spring. They must apply as a summer graduate, but can choose to participate in the commencement ceremony if they wish. Contact the Registrar for your questions.

Cost: The charge for the 2016 program is tentatively estimated at $4,200.  A final program cost will be made available in December of 2014.
