Pre-Pharmacy

Are you interested in a career in pharmacy?
Pharmacy is currently a tremendous field and Augustana provides an outstanding preparation for students wishing to become pharmacists. In the past five years, Augustana has had an acceptance rate into pharmacy schools of approximately 95%!

The greatest strength of any pre-pharmacy program should be the academics. Augustana is an excellent college and you will find that our preparation for pharmacy school is second to none. Your classes will be taught by professors with PhDs, not by teaching assistants (we don’t have any TA’s!). Faculty members here are hired to teach, not to do research or publish. Our class sizes are small. Therefore, professors will get to know you personally.

Augustana students have a variety of routes by which they can become pharmacists, earning a doctorate of pharmacy (PharmD):

2+ 4 Program - This program involves two years of study at Augustana, including basic chemistry, biology, calculus, physics, and English courses. Students then enroll for four years at a graduate institution.

3 + 4 Program - This is similar to the 2 + 4 Program, except that more of the basic sciences are studied during the longer stay at Augustana.

4 + 4 Program - This program is the more traditional route in which you would earn a bachelor’s degree in four years followed by pharmacy school.

Our new $23 million science complex secures Augustana’s place among the nation’s most respected centers of undergraduate instruction in science and the pre-health professions. The science building offers students the latest in high tech labs and research facilities, including advanced labs in biochemistry and physical chemistry.
