STUDENT EXCHANGE AGREEMENT

BETWEEN

AUGUSTANA COLLEGE, ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS, USA

AND

THE UNIVERSITY OF PASSAU, PASSAU, GERMANY

This agreement applies to an exchange of students between Augustana College and the University of Passau for the academic year 2004-2005.
1. Augustana College and the University of Passau will exchange a fixed number of students in each academic year that the exchange is in effect. The number of students to be exchanged in any given academic year will be based on equivalency. Thus, for example, allowing for the respective three-term and two-semester systems, two students from Augustana College may study at the University of Passau for a semester or a year while two students from the University of Passau may study at Augustana for one, two, or three terms.
2. Students from Augustana College will be responsible for paying tuition at Augustana College. All scholarships and loans will be applied toward tuition. At the University of Passau Augustana students will pay the student fee (Studentenwerksbeitrag) and any other student fees. Student housing will be provided by the University of Passau for ten months at no cost. (This is limited to two single rooms.) Augustana students will be responsible for paying board.

Students from the University of Passau will be responsible for paying at Augustana College the Student Fee, the Technology Fee, and room and board, whether that be on or off campus.
3. Visiting students at both institutions will be responsible for all costs not covered by the exchange, including books, transportation, accommodations outside of term (i.e., vacations, and before the official start of, and after the end of, the term), and health care not covered in fees.
4. Every effort will be made by the host institution to house exchange students as they desire.
5. The home institution will send the host institution a list of candidates with such supporting documents as the host institution desires by 1 April of the preceding academic year.
6. The host institution will permit visiting students to enroll in a normal course load and will endeavor to place students in all courses for which they meet the prerequisites of the host institution. However, there may be restrictions on course choice, and no guarantee of a place in a particular course can be made. A transcript of grades for each participating student will be sent to the home institution. Students from Augustana College will have their grades recorded as Pass/No Pass, with, however, this grading being exempt from standard restrictions on Pass/No Pass courses.
7. Refunds for students who discontinue the program prematurely are generally not available. Students should consult their home institutions for specific policies. However, a student’s premature departure from the host institution will not result in a reduction in the number of students from the home institution.
8. Each institution will identify a faculty/administrative coordinator for the exchange program who will assume responsibility for administering the program. In addition, each institution will provide a qualified student to serve as a liaison for the exchange student. This liaison will be paid by the host institution.
9. Each institution may terminate this agreement by written notice not later than 1 December in the preceding academic year.
