Udden Geology Club

Augustana College
Department of Geology

Udden Geology Club meets weekly for informal presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics in an effort to help develop student interest in the broader geosciences. We often invite outside speakers to talk about their research, careers, or graduate school experiences. In addition to weekly meetings, Udden Club sponsors several geology fieldtrips each year to such places as the Grand Canyon (’06), Hawaii (’05), and Death Valley (’03) as well as occasional local/regional fieldtrips.

Founded in 1933 in honor of J.A. Udden, who taught geology at Augustana from 1888-1911, Udden Geology Club is one of the longest standing organizations at Augustana College. The club is open to anyone interested in the earth sciences. The main objective of the group is to provide a forum where geological topics can be presented and discussed informally. Presentations are typically given by faculty, students or visiting speakers, and time is alloted afterwards for discussion. Other activities include field trips to local areas of interest and participation in campus events.

The Udden Club meets every Friday at 3:45 p.m. in the Swenson Hall of Geoscience, and refreshments are served (free cookies). Visitors are always welcome.
