The Geology Department
uses this lab to do rock melting and crystallization
research. These are pictures of Augustana students building and
working in the Experimental Petrology Lab. Photos show students
arc-welding capsules containing rock powder, adding micro liters
of water to the powders, cooling the red-hot reaction vessels with a blast
of air, wrenching open the reaction vessels after an experiment, and
preparing the samples for electron microprobe analysis. Click on each thumbnail image for a larger picture:
