Career and Internship Links

Our geology majors obtain jobs right out of college in areas such as environmental consulting, mineral exploration, resource and land-use management, education and hazards assessments. Here's a sampling of jobs that recent Augustana geology graduates have landed: Environmental Risk Assessor for Bank One; a geologist for Water Quality Engineering, Inc.; Senior Environmental Technician for Dupage County; Building and Zoning Inspector for Boone County; Project Scientist for Terracon, Inc.; High School Science Teacher in Lake Park, Illinois; District Geologist for Illinois Department of Transportation; Staff Hydrogeologists for Handex of Illinois and Komex H2O Science Inc. In addition, many of our majors go on to get Masters degrees, Ph.D.s and J.D.s and are successful professors, lawyers and scientists all over the country.

During their four years at Augustana, our geology majors have many unique summer opportunities available to them which provide them with invaluable experience to prepare them for future jobs and/or graduate school. Recently, our majors have been granted summer research experiences and internships through the National Science Foundation, NASA, Illinois State Geological Survey, and Universities all over the country. Our students have studied faulting in the mountains of Mongolia, earthquakes in the middle of the Atlantic, volcanoes in Kamchatka, Russia, continental collision in a lab at the University of Minnesota, the geology of Martian landscapes at the University of Arizona, modern glacial movement in Alaska and ancient glacial geology of Illinois.

Below is a list of career-related links in the geosciences. There are many more resources available on the web which can be found by surfing. Other useful sites to investigate are homepages for geoscience and environmental science departments at universities and other colleges.
