“Expert Home Cooking—Breakfast, Dinner and Lunch. Fine Liquors,” according to the back of this 1940s postcard. Location: the intersection of Route 6 with state highway 7 in Orland Park. This is as close as route 6 gets to Chicago. The stretch of Route 6 across the southern portion of Cook County (home to the Windy City) included significant rural territory in the 1940s. It is now wall-to-wall suburbs.
