Student Profile

Student Laureate Selected for 2007-2008

Kristen Sentman has been selected as Augustana’s Lincoln Academy of Illinois Student Laureate for the 2007-2008 academic year. She was selected from a strong pool of student candidates by a faculty committee in early October. The Lincoln Academy of Illinois annually awards a Student Laureate Award to one student from each Illinois college/university. Kristen will receive a Lincoln Academy Student Medallion, a certificate of achievement and a check for $150 in recognition of outstanding achievement. She will also participate in a ceremony at the Old State Capitol and luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield.

Kristin Sentman , an Augustana College senior majoring in biology and pre-medicine with a minor in geology, hails from Batavia, Illinois. Her involvement on campus includes serving as president of the Augustana Community Health Outreach Organization (ACHOO), where she is currently helping to set up a self-sustaining healthcare clinic in Nicaragua for Augustana students and alumni, and as treasurer of Global Affect, where she is active in planning activities and awareness of environmental issues. She has been an active participant in other college programs including the Science Honors program, Udden Geology Club, Lindhal Biology Club, Concert Band, and the 2006 and 2007 Fall Fellowships sponsored by the Augustana Center for the Study of Ethics. She was recently appointed to the Center for the Study of Ethics board and is helping to plan the activities for the coming year.

Kristin also has reached out to impact the Quad City community in several ways. This past summer she worked with a doctor at the Genesis Heart Institute to complete several research projects, which will be published in the future. She is an active volunteer with Heartland Hospice, and also participates in the Let’s Rock Program where geology students travel to local area schools to teach geological concepts. Sentman has also done various service outreach projects through clubs like ACHOO, Global Affect, Omicron Delta Kappa (a leadership honor society), Beta Beta Beta (biological honor society). Currently she is working on her Honors Capstone project, which will culminate in a play about justice in the access of healthcare in our nation.
