Student Profile
Elisabeth Rutkowski, a Senior Political Science, History and Spanish triple major, with a minor in Latin American Studies, spent the summer of 2007 as an intern at the Andean Parliament. At the beginning of the summer, Liz worked in the Ecuador National Office of the Andean Parliament where she served as a member of the staff in charge of public relations for the European-Latin American Conference held in early July in Quito , Ecuador . As a member of this office her responsibilities included coordinating the activities of diplomats at the conference as well as greeting them at the airport. Liz also helped organize the jewelry exposition ( Tagua y Plata ) for the Andean Culture Week, sponsored by the Andean Parliament. In addition, as part of her internship Liz collected information on sustainable development programs in Ecuador and helped develop a report on the environment and the impact of oil companies on rain forests in Ecuador, the research for which she conducted during a summer 2006 internship in Quito, Ecuador at the NGO Participación Ciudadana .
At the invitation of the President and the Secretary-General of the Andean Parliament, Liz spent three weeks in August working as an intern in the Office of the Secretary-General, headquartered in Bogotá , Colombia . Working in conjunction with the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, her primary responsibility consisted of helping design and build the curriculum for a newly created Master's Program in Andean Integration at the university.
