2006 Department /Division Chair Workshops
Mark your calendar for the fifth annual CIC Department/Division Chair Workshops to take place in St. Louis, MO on May 23rd to May 25th. The workshops focus on the distinctive challenges of department leadership in small and mid-sized private colleges and universities. Further information about the workshops will be sent in early January 2006.
Nicole Dexter - 2005 Lincoln Academy Laureate
Nicole Dexter has been selected to represent Augustana College as this year's Lincoln Academy Student Laureate. This award honors senior students at each of the four-year, degree-granting institutions in Illinois for overall excellence, in both curricular and extra-curricular programs.
Nicole Dexter is a senior at Augustana College majoring in Political Science and Speech Communication with a minor in Philosophy. Over the past three years, she has been active on her campus and in the community. In the Quad Cities, she volunteers at St. Anthony's Nursing Home, is a current member of the NOW Quad Cities chapter, and was a "Best Buddies" companion for two years. On her campus, she is the current president of the Augustana College Democrats and has worked on the student newspaper as a reporter and production assistant. She was a 2004 Fellow in the Center for the Study of Ethics where she researched and discussed media, politics and ethics with students, faculty and community members. Over the summer, she was granted a Student- Faculty research grant from Augustana. Under the guidance of Dr. Stephen Klien, she conducted independent research on female abolitionist rhetoric, comparing the rhetoric of white and African-American rhetors. This research was presented at Augustana over the summer and has been submitted for rhetorical conferences. Currently, Nicole is interning for Senator Barack Obama in Chicago.
