Announcements

The American Chemical Society Student (ACS) Affiliates Chapter at Augustana has been awarded the Commendable Award for its activities conducted during the 2006-2007 academic year. For that year, over 300 reports were submitted and the Society Committee on Education presented 28 outstanding, 51 commendable, and 96 honorable mention awards. The award winning chapters will be honored at the 235 th ACS National Meeting in New Orleans in April of 2008.

Professors Mary Ellen Biggin and Sally Burgmeier should also be mentioned for their excellent work with the students in the Augustana chapter. The ACS award letter extended “their warmest congratulations to Professors Biggin and Burgmeier for setting such a fine example for other chapters and preparing the next generation of chemical professionals.”

Campus Celebration for all faculty and staff will take place in the Science Building Atrium on Thursday, October 11, at 4:00 p.m.

Week Seven Seminar: The Book Goes Digital: The Good, the Bad, and the Realistic

In honor of “From Parchment to Pixels: The Year of the Book” and American Archives Month, WSS will feature the topic of Google's massive effort to digitize books in major libraries, and the reasons we sometimes want to preserve the real thing. Discussion will be led by Sarah Horowitz and Jamie Nelson, Special Collections Librarians. ( Reading for discussion is on Moodle under “Library/Week Seven Seminar”) Week Seven Seminar is an informal discussion group by and for faculty, now in its 7th year!
