United Board Scholars Arrive on Campus

Since 2003, Augustana has hosted two Visiting Fellows through the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. This year is no different. Bambang Purnomo Hediono will arrive January 31 (Thursday) and Dr. Thomas Perakathusseril Mathew will arrive on February 5 (Tuesday).

Bambang Purnomo Hediono - He is currently Vice President of Academic Affairs, Duta Wacana Christian University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. While on campus, Bambang’s mentor will be Michael Green.

Dr. Thomas Perakathusseril Mathew - Thomas is a Lecturer, Senior Grade, with the Department of Botany at Union Christian College, Aluva, Kerala, India. His mentor will be Bo Dziadyk.

While on campus, the Fellows will share an office on the third floor of Denkmann and will live in the International Scholars House, located at 731 - 34 th Street.

The United Board for Christian Education in Asia provides fellowships for Asian scholars who are on the “administrative track” at their home institutions. The fellowship is a two-year program in which they are assigned to a university in the United States for four months and the following year they will spend four months at an Asian university (not in their home country). While on campus the United Board Fellows are encouraged to observe, read and research within their field or towards their next position at their campus.

According to Bambang’s supervisor, he will most likely become the Director of the Center for Human Resources Development and eventually become Rector of the University. Thomas’ supervisor states his next position will be the Bursar of the College, Dean of Administration, and eventually, would become the Head of the Institution.

If you would like more information please contact either the Fellows’ mentors or Jane Tiedge, International Programs office.

Time Capsule Book (The Year of the Book)
Pages for Augustana's Time Capsule Book will be accepted through the end of Winter Term - don't miss this opportunity!

Make a page in Augustana’s Time Capsule Book, which will be stored in the Tredway Library’s Special Collections department to be enjoyed by future students, staff, faculty, and alumni!

Using FREE archival paper, create a page by yourself (or get together with your department, your office, a student club or group you advise, etc.) to create a page that commemorates your year here at Augustana College. Teaching faculty: Ask your students to submit an assignment--a writing project, creative endeavor, etc.--according to the Time Capsule Book guidelines, give the completed assignment to us, and their work will become timeless!

Include whatever content you’d like on your page: prose, poetry, images, scanned photos, art…be creative! Just be sure to follow the guidelines (linked below) to ensure that the materials you use will stand the test of time.
