Dear Colleagues,

I hope that you and yours enjoyed a pleasant and restful holiday.

I wanted to share with you an update on our searches this year. We will in the weeks ahead use the newsletter to introduce new colleagues.

Because of new positions, retirement, or other reasons, we are hiring in the following areas:

Anthropology / Generalist
Art History / Asian
BA / Finance/Marketing
Chemistry / Organic
Classics / Generalist
Communication / Methodology
Communication / Debate assistant
Education / Elementary
English / Composition/Rhetoric

History / Latin American
Music / Piano
Philosophy / Ethical Theory
Physics / Experimental
Psychology / Counseling

Theatre / Design

And I am glad to report that we have already hired Janene Finley in accounting. Janene is completing her PhD at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and we will include a feature on her work, which reaches beyond the discipline to political science, in an upcoming newsletter.

Steve and I are grateful to the departments hiring this year for the additional work they are doing to ensure successful hires. I hope that you will be able to participate in searches by attending a research or classroom talk.

I should also note the faculty development opportunities announced in the week four newsletter and again today. On the announcements page, you will see notices of both the presidential research fellowship and major project support.

I have scheduled the first of a planned monthly series of small lunches for colleagues to gather to discuss issues before us. Likewise, my weekly ‘open’ hours for conversations with faculty are listed each week in this space as well (see below). As always, please call my office any time that you would like to speak with me.

Yours,

Jeff
