The Key in Classics: Triads and Department Linking

The power of Classical studies comes from breadth of human perspective combined with tight focus on language.

This means a special breadth (two thousand years of thought and action) spanning the experience of Greece and Rome, a special depth (Greek or Latin, learning how to be intently aware of language), and pre-planned links with numerous other departments.

Our readings courses--all the courses numbered over 200--bring that Classical breadth and depth via our Triad format. Students meet individually or in small groups with their professor for the close reading of Greek or Latin; and they meet in a regular class to discuss, via English readings, the literary form and larger Classical context of the current subject.

Triad: the subject seen across both the Greek and Roman worlds of the Classical sphere, through the integration of readings in English.
